About Us
Who is Tomlinson Solutions?
Tomlinson Solutions is a managed IT, cybersecurity and web partner for growing businesses, founded in 2008 and based in the South West of England. We bring senior IT direction, a 24×7 security operation and responsive UK support together as one joined-up service.
Where are you based, and who do you work with?
We are based in the South West and work with businesses across Exeter, Plymouth and the wider region, and UK-wide on request. We are a strong fit for growing teams of roughly 25 to 250 people.
Who runs the company?
Tomlinson Solutions was founded in 2008 by Ian Tomlinson, who remains CEO and Founder. Troy Wheeler joined as Managing Director in 2021.
Are you certified?
Yes. We are Cyber Essentials Plus certified, a Kaseya Gold Partner and a Trusted Cyber Partner of the Cyber Resilience Centre for the South West, and we were an EMEA Finalist in the 2025 MSP Titans of the Industry programme.
Are you the cheapest provider?
No, and we would not want to be. We are a premium, per-user managed service, priced to invest properly in your security and direction, with a clear, costed plan before you commit.
What makes you different from other IT providers?
We treat technology as an investment in growth rather than a cost to manage, we name the people who look after you, and we join up IT, security and the web under one team.
Enquiries
How quickly will you respond to my enquiry?
We aim to respond to new enquiries the same working day. Our helpdesk runs 08:00 to 18:00, Monday to Friday, backed by a 24×7 security operation for threats out of hours.
Is the assessment free?
Yes. The initial strategy session and assessment are free and carry no obligation. You receive a clear, costed plan before you commit a penny.
Where are you based, and which areas do you cover?
We are based in the South West and cover Exeter, Plymouth and the wider region, and we work UK-wide on request.
What happens after I get in touch?
We arrange a short, no-obligation conversation to understand your business, then carry out a free assessment and give you a clear, costed plan. If we are not the right fit, we will say so.
Can you work alongside our current IT provider?
Often, yes, as long as your current provider contract does not have an exclusivity clause. We will be straight with you about what is practical.
Are we tied into a long contract?
We work on committed terms, typically 12 to 36 months, which is what lets us plan and invest in your business. We de-risk that with a free assessment up front and a 90-day guarantee, subject to the terms in your agreement.
Insights
What do you write about?
We write straight-talking insights on managed IT, cybersecurity and digital growth for business leaders, with practical thinking and no jargon or scare tactics.
Who writes your insights?
Our insights come from the Tomlinson Solutions team, drawing on real client work in IT, security and the web since 2008.
Are the articles aimed at IT specialists?
No. They are written for business owners and leaders who want clear, useful guidance, not deep technical detail for its own sake.
How often do you publish?
We publish regularly and refresh our thinking as the landscape changes, particularly around security threats and digital growth.
Can I ask you about something I have read?
Yes. If an article raises a question about your own business, you can book a free, no-obligation conversation with us.
Do these insights apply to small businesses?
Yes. Most of our guidance is aimed at growing teams of roughly 25 to 250 people, the kind of businesses we support every day.
Our Work
Who do you work with?
We work with growing businesses across the South West and UK-wide, typically teams of roughly 25 to 250 people, across sectors including manufacturing, architecture, construction and professional services.
Can you share client references?
Yes. We are happy to put you in touch with clients such as EHV Structures, Co Create Architects and Thorverton Stone, who can speak to what working with us is like.
What is your Google review rating?
We are rated 5.0 across 120 five-star Google reviews from the businesses we look after.
What results do clients see?
Clients tell us they feel more secure, better supported and free to focus on growth, with technology that supports the business rather than holding it back.
Do you have experience in our industry?
Very likely. Our clients span manufacturing, architecture, construction and professional services, so we understand the pressures of different sectors.
How do I become a client?
Start with a free, no-obligation assessment. We will understand your business, give you a clear, costed plan, and if we are not the right fit we will say so.
Managed IT & Cybersecurity
Is there a size of business you’re best for?
We’re a great fit for growing teams of roughly 25 to 250 people who treat technology as an investment. Professional-services firms especially, such as accountancy, legal, consultancy and agencies, though we support growing businesses across many sectors. If you’re smaller but genuinely ambitious, you’re welcome too. We cover the South West, from Exeter and Plymouth up to Bristol, and work UK-wide on request.
What’s included in TS Complete?
TS Complete is our package, sold as a secure outcome rather than a parts list. It’s built on four pillars: a UK Service Desk (08:00–18:00, Mon–Fri); 24×7 Security Operations; Technology Alignment (keeping you to Cyber Essentials Plus, working to Cyber Assurance Level 2 and NCSC guidance, with reviews every 4–8 weeks); and a Virtual IT Director (a dedicated senior IT leader, with quarterly strategy reviews).
Is the 24×7 Security Operations Centre really included, and is support around the clock?
Yes. With TS Complete the SOC is standard, not an upsell. You get round-the-clock monitoring with human-touch response, active threats contained in around ten minutes as a separate always-on workflow from the helpdesk, plus audit- and insurer-ready reporting. The helpdesk itself runs 08:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday, with best-effort out-of-hours emergency cover.
Will you help with Cyber Essentials, insurance and compliance?
We do, and we’re Cyber Essentials Plus certified ourselves. Your managed baseline aligns to those controls, and we keep the logs, user training and reporting that cyber insurers, auditors and the ICO ask for, ready when you need them.
What happens when we switch, and will there be downtime?
No. We run a calm, structured onboarding over about four weeks, planned around your team so day-to-day work isn’t disrupted. You’ll have a clear plan and named contacts throughout.
What contract are we committing to, and what’s the 90-day guarantee?
Strategic IT is a partnership, so we work on committed terms, typically 12 to 36 months. That commitment is what lets us plan, invest and align technology to where you’re going. To make starting low-risk, we begin with a free assessment so you see the plan and value first, and back it with a 90-day guarantee set out in plain terms in your agreement.
Project Services
Do I need a managed IT contract to do a project with you?
No. Every project stands on its own, with no retainer and no lock-in. If it makes sense afterwards we can look after it ongoing, but that’s your call.
Can you do a project if we already have an IT provider?
Yes, as long as your current provider contract does not have an exclusivity clause. We regularly deliver one-off projects alongside an existing provider or in-house team.
Who actually does the work?
Our own certified engineers, the same team that looks after our managed clients. No subcontractors.
Do you tie us in afterwards?
No contracts and no lock-in. The project is finished when it’s handed over and working.
What areas do you cover?
Exeter, Plymouth and across the South West, and UK-wide on request.
What does a one-off project cost?
It depends on scope. You get a fixed, costed plan before you commit a penny, so there are never any surprises.
How long does Cyber Essentials take?
On average, Cyber Essentials within four weeks and Cyber Essentials Plus within three months. It depends how ready your systems are, so we assess first and confirm a realistic timeline before you commit.
Web & Digital
What web and digital services do you offer?
We design, build and look after business websites, and we handle the digital work around them, including hosting, maintenance, performance and search visibility, all delivered by our in-house team alongside your IT and security.
Do you host and maintain the websites you build?
Yes. We can host, monitor, update and support your site after launch, so it stays fast, secure and current rather than going stale the day it goes live.
Will my website be found in search and AI tools?
We build sites to be found. That means clean, fast, well-structured pages with the right on-page signals, so you show up in search engines and increasingly in AI answer tools.
Can you redesign or improve our existing website?
Yes. We often improve or rebuild existing sites rather than starting from scratch, keeping what works and fixing what holds the site back.
How long does a new website take?
It depends on size and complexity, but most business sites run on a clear, costed timeline agreed up front, so you know what is happening and when.
Does the website connect to our IT and security?
Yes. Because we look after IT, security and the web under one team, your site, domains, email and data protection are joined up rather than scattered across suppliers.
